Hello! I’m Dr. Kate.

Ph.D., Sociology, 2019, University of Massachusetts-Boston
MA, Gender and Cultural Studies, 2013, Simmons College
BA, Women’s and Gender Studies, 2009, Beloit College

I am teaching faculty in Gender and Women’s Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My courses include body politics, feminist theory, fat studies, food politics, global health, and general survey courses. I love the teaching and learning process, deepening my understanding of pedagogy, and developing engaging and topical course content.
My academic research focuses on body politics, embodiment narratives, girlhood studies, fatness, feminist theory, digital sociology, and gender and sexuality. My book Digital Girlhoods (2025) is now available from Temple University Press. You can learn more about my book here.

A little more about me!
I am a parent of two kiddos, an academic enthusiast, a woodsy gal, and part time songstress. I am the captain of my ultimate frisbee team here in Madison (The Ruth Badder Disc Burns), I sing and play the ukulele, I love being in the woods, and I love a good cup of coffee. Whenever possible, my partner and I get our canoe out on the water, head out to the woods to hike and camp, or go exploring on our bicycles.
